Community Programs
Community Programs
Charles City County Public Schools has two Community Programs in place to assist our students and families.
Community Den
The Community Den is a resource room located in room 218, in the wing behind the school board office. The Den is available to all students, staff, families, and community members. All items are free to those who might need them. Items available in the Den include school supplies, household supplies – paper products, cleaning products, laundry detergent, etc., hygiene supplies, clothing/shoes, books, and food. There are also computers with internet and printing access and information on community resources. The Den is open the first and third Tuesday of the month from 1:00 – 5:30 or by appointment. It is a resource that is available to our students and they are welcome to come down during open hours or at other times as needed.
Tiger Packs
The Tiger Packs program is a weekend backpack program that is run at CCES. Each weekend, identified students are provided with a backpack of food items to help supplement what families are able to provide at home. With the high percentage of students that receive free or reduced lunch at CCES, this program has been a source of support for many families. Last year we sent home 49 backpacks, which provided food or 130 children. Bags are packed on Thursday afternoons after school and distributed to students on Friday before the end of the day.
Donations Wanted
Both of these problems are supported solely through donations. What we get is what we have to give. And all the work is done by volunteers. Below is a listing of needed items for each program. We can also accept monetary donations if you want to help but don’t want to shop. If you are interested in volunteering with either program or just want to know more about either program, contact Stephanie Leek at sleek@ccps.net.
