Dr. Bernard Burwell

Mr. Bernard Burwell

The Principal of Charles City Elementary School is Mr. Bernard Burwell!  Mr. Burwell served as an Assistant Principal with Prince George County Public Schools.  Prior to becoming an assistant principal in Prince George, Mr. Burwell served as an educator and leader in Chesterfield County Public Schools.  In Chesterfield County, he served as a Special Education Coordinator, Dean Of Students, and Special Education Teacher.

 Mr. Burwell obtained a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.  He received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Randolph-Macon College.

 Mr. Burwell has a strong background in Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and supporting student academic achievement (to include students at all levels with an emphasis on students receiving special education services).

 Mr. Burwell states – “Charles City County Public Schools stands out as a district dedicated to excellence and collaboration. Mr. Jeffrey Groh

Mr. Jeffrey Groh, Assitant Principal

The new Assistant Principal of Charles City Elementary School is Mr. Groh. Mr. Groh has been an assistant principal for 4 years. He has worked at all grade levels in various capacities; elementary school assistant principal (Desert Willow Elementary School, Casa Grande, AZ), 7th Grade Special Education Resource Specialist  (Cactus Middle School, Casa Grande, AZ), Social Intervention Provider (Depoali Middle School, Reno, NV), and Art and Special Education Teacher (Environmental Charter High School, Lawndale, CA).

 He obtained a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. He earned his Certification and bachelor’s degree in Art and Special Education from Point Loma Nazarene University.

Mr. Groh states – “We are committed to people and relationships, cultural responsiveness, and ensuring the success of individuals regardless of bias, race, or class.  We prioritize respecting the rights and voices of all stakeholders. We engage in critical thinking and advocate for the needs of every learner. Additionally, we aim to positively influence public discourse, fostering inclusivity and equity in education by asserting the belief that all children can learn can be successful.”
