Charles City, VA – Dr. Katina Otey has been announced as the next superintendent of Charles City County Public Schools. Her new position will become effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Otey currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Charlottesville City Public Schools, a role she has held since 2020.
Dr. Otey brings 31 years of experience in public education, beginning her career as a classroom teacher with Roanoke City Public Schools in 1994. Over the course of her career, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in Henrico County Public Schools, as well as Director of Elementary School Leadership for Chesterfield County Public Schools.
“I am honored to serve the Charles City community as Superintendent,” said Dr. Otey. “Charles City has a rich history and a strong sense of pride. I look forward to working collaboratively with our incredible staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure every student is inspired, supported, and prepared for the future. I’m humbled by the support I’ve received, and I ask all of you to join me in rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on behalf of our scholars. Together, we will build upon the division’s many strengths and continue to more forward with excellence.”
Rodney Tyler, chair of the Charles City County School Board, believes Dr. Otey will be a great fit for the division. Her extensive leadership experience across diverse educational settings, combined with a proven track record of fostering excellence and driving innovation, makes her an excellent match for our division and community.”
Dr. Otey earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Virginia Tech.
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) assisted the school board with the superintendent search process.
