Dr. Otey brings 31 years of experience in public education, beginning her career as a classroom teacher with Roanoke City Public Schools in 1994. Over the course of her career, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal, Principal in Henrico County Public Schools, as well as Director of Elementary School Leadership for Chesterfield County Public Schools, and Chief Academic Officer for Charlottesville City Public Schools.
“I am honored to serve the Charles City community as Superintendent,” said Dr. Otey. “Charles City has a rich history and a strong sense of pride. I look forward to working collaboratively with our incredible staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure every student is inspired, supported, and prepared for the future. I’m humbled by the support I’ve received, and I ask all of you to join me in rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on behalf of our scholars. Together, we will build upon the division’s many strengths and continue to move forward with excellence.”
Dr. Otey earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Virginia Tech.
